Backyard Landscaping Ideas On A Budget

by Eugene Kelley

Landscape design consists of more than just a front lawn — it should also consist of different shrubs, trees, flowers, and hardscapes in the front, back, and sides of the home. Unfortunately, you may not have your backyard landscaped to an appealing and enjoyable state. To ensure your backyard is not only functional and appealing, here are a few affordable landscaping ideas to consider.

Natural Area

A grassy backyard is nice, but it can be difficult to maintain, especially through the warmer seasons when temperatures are high and the lawn needs to be watered more frequently. Thankfully, there is a way to reduce lawn maintenance while adding a great deal of style to your backyard.

Today, more and more homeowners are seeing the benefits of creating a large natural area. By removing an area of lawn and spreading pine straw over the ground, you can create a space in your backyard that is still functional without requiring an excess of maintenance.

After removing the lawn and arranging a thick layer of pine straw over the ground, consider placing a few Adirondack-style chairs in the space. The natural area can also be a great spot for a playground, allowing you to relax while your children enjoy the playground.

To ensure the natural area remains appealing over time, spray the pine straw with herbicide regularly. This will kill any existing weeds while preventing new ones from growing up from the ground through the pine straw.

Firepit

Adding a fire feature to your backyard is another great option to consider. Fortunately, you do not have to spend a lot of money creating an area with a sturdy, level surface with a fire pit for you, your family, and your guests.

Although a patio is ideal for added value, creating a surface in your backyard does not necessarily require concrete or paver stones. Mark an area of your backyard where you would like your fire pit. Then, remove grass and some dirt so the ground is level. Treat the area with herbicide to prevent weed growth.

Once prepared, fill the area with pea gravel, which is an inexpensive alternative to traditional patio materials. Purchase or build a fire pit that can be added to your new pea gravel patio and then surround it with comfortable chairs or benches.

With the right planning, you can create a functional and attractive backyard without spending a fortune. This guide gives you a few excellent options for updating the backyard with ease. If you have any questions or want something more put into your yard, contact landscape design services
